In 2008, there was a communal riot in Khandmal District between Christians and Hindu Caste, 5000 houses in over 30 villages were burnt and many families ran out of the district and settled down in different parts on India.(this can be googled..).
Over 800 families were given shelter temporarily in YMCA Bhubaneswar. When Founder President visited and saw the scene of these dishoused, he initially made arrangement to give clothing and then trunks for storing their necessities. Later he was moved in his heart with compassion and took an oath before God to provide housing for at least 100 families.
He was waiting for an income from his resources and utilized the money to purchase 30 plus acres of land in Tengripada, Dhenkanal district.
This land was chosen as it is away from their native district and away from any communal riots. The intention also was to make the project as a self sustaining one. With the help of a good friend he could complete 96 houses. There was no approach road and no electric power.
Later with some persuasion, the mud road was made and electric power brought in.
During this period he had taken steps to train 23 victims, young girls and multi-purpose health workers enabling them to have basic nurses training.
He is now looking for helps to either start a poultry farm or cattle farm or fisheries to bring in these families and help them to be self supporting. There are 12 young adults going thru ministry training.
It is also imperative to know there are 46 tribal villages in this district to be developed with infrastructures, education institutions and hospitals. The total project is shown in the pictures attached.
